Stories of Service

Description:

Production Workshops for Stories of Service: An Evening with Veterans at Hill Auditorium will take place Mondays and Wednesdays Oct 2 - Nov 6 at The Ann Arbor Club.  Workshops will culminate in a large scale production on Wednesday November 8, featuring storytellers, live music and performance.  Veterans from UofM, EMU, and WCC are welcome to participate.  Consistent attendance is required.

Stories of Service is facilitated by director Maija Garcia, an Ann Arbor native with a passion for stories. Garcia will be assisted by Army Captain Kate Melcher, executive director of Fisher House Michigan.  The production we build will raise awareness about Military Veteran experience since WWII, and raise funds to build Michigan's first Fisher House, providing housing and support to Veteran families.

In these workshops we will establish a practice of storytelling and listening; building trust and a collective vision. We will integrate some of the stories and ideas shared into a performance installation.  The scope of your participation is determined by your interest and offerings throughout the creative process.  Veterans are encouraged but not required to participate (ie. perform) in the installation.  This production also needs technical support, therefore - all hands on deck!
