An interactive live installation by director/choreographer Maija Garcia, co-written by Armando Batista with original music by Daniel Bernard Roumain, I Am New York: Juan Rodriguez transports audiences to a seminal moment in NYC history to meet Juan Rodriguez – a free man of mixed race origin from Santo Domingo who settled Mannahatta in 1613.

Contemporary Class with Maija Garcia
Feb 4, 5, 6 7:30-9:30 @ Abrons Art Center
A full bodied movement experience infused with yoga, martial arts, afro-latin and contemporary dance begins with an extensive warm-up to open the body’s organic flow, developing core strength and flexibility. Floor work releases tension and settles the bones in alignment. Phrase work encourages fluidity, velocity and expansive movement.  Garcia’s technique balances effort and ease, locating the axis in suspension to create energetic momentum.
